Hands-On Instruction Free of Gimmicks and Fillers
The Jeet Kune Do Academy gives you a consistently pure training experience by providing you hands on instruction. The instruction focuses total class time on the development of fighting skill. Not jumping jacks, push-ups or sit-ups which are used as filler activities and have nothing to do with developing your fighting skills.
Everything that you work on in the Training Center will help you improve on your fighting skill. Examples of essential training activities include training footwork while maintaining your fighting stance and posture, warming up with sparring footwork and ground movement drills. All of our activities are aimed towards developing your fundamental fighting skills which is why they will be enhanced constantly through repetition. You will hone your skills in every class and your progression will be noticeable.
These are the same training methods used by world class martial artists and trainers such as Bruce Lee, Anderson Silva and Gokor Chivichyan.
We Care About What We Teach and How You Develop
The fully certified instructors at the Training Center are not only here to motivate you and give you a great workout, they possess a pure passion about what they’re teaching. This means that they routinely focus on finer details that are sometimes overlooked by others
Have you ever heard the old cliché that “the devil is in the details”?
In regard to martial arts instruction, there couldn’t be a more truthful statement. When a student is taught to properly execute a punch, kick or lock, body mechanics is vitally important. Learning movement properly means that you’ll be able to hit harder with less effort as well as manipulating your opponent’s limbs for a choke or an arm bar using less effort as well.
Reputable Time Tested Martial Arts Instruction Which is Key for Your Success
Our instructors have direct lineage to the founders of their systems and maintain the integrity of their teachings so that they can pass on and impart that same knowledge onto you.
Since the explosion of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in the early 2000s, every Tom, Dick and Harry has been opening up martial arts schools one after the next.
Here’s a Story I Would Like to Share With You:
I remember being told a story by one of my instructors, Jerry Poteet, who trained with Bruce Lee privately. He said “martial arts instruction can be compared to the game ‘Telephone’, that’s a childhood game where you tell one person one thing and they are to pass it on to another person and so on.” Once the message goes full circle, it completely loses its original meaning.
Things get lost or fundamentally altered in translation. How true and often, how sad.
Take the time to research your instructors’ credentials thoroughly rather than just taking their word for it. Researching lineage is extremely important; the closer the instructor is to the system’s founders the better. 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation instructors are usually the best to learn from. The further from the founder of the system often means the further you are from the truth.
Also just because someone has competed doesn’t make that person an automatic expert and a supreme martial arts instructor. Teaching experience comes with time in training as well as time in teaching others.
Some of the best coaches in world in world were mediocre competitors yet incredible students of the game. Phil Jackson, a decent NBA player at best, is one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time. Cus D’Amato world renowned boxing trainer to three world champions (Floyd Paterson, Mike Tyson and Jose Torres) reportedly had one amateur fight in which he lost. Ted Williams was one of the best all-time baseball players of the game but one of the worst coaches.
Personalized Instruction in a Group Setting
Teaching classes that are in small groups (class size no larger than 12 people) helps to maintain the integrity of personalized instruction in a class-like atmosphere.
This allows us to gear instruction to you as an individual learner. Every person is unique and is taught to his or her own ability and skill. Each person is given the tools and proper instruction to be able to develop into a highly proficient and effective martial artist.
This approach to training is designed to help you progress at a faster rate while enriching you with a hands-on learning experience, rather than making you feel lost in the crowd.
