Code of Conduct

  1. There are no egos allowed, this is an ego-free environment. This has a few different meanings. It means you are obligated to pay attention to yourself and your own mastery of skills. You should aspire to become more skilled and should not resent yourself because you’re not as good other people when you first start training. No one is here to judge you. Everyone has had to start somewhere.

If you are a more skillful practitioner of the art, you are not to take advantage of the lesser skilled students. This does nothing for a new student’s confidence and skill; in fact, it’s a true sign of insecurity.

The same goes for new students, you are here to learn, you’re not here to try to hurt people. If you want to get your head bashed in and lose precious brain cells, I’m sure there are many local boxing gyms that will help you accomplish that goal. Again this is learning environment not a macho competition.

Senior students are encouraged to help new students gain the skills and confidence necessary to progress properly. Remember that teaching is the highest form of learning.

  2. If you give up easily because things have a tendency to be difficult please don’t bother joining our academy. You need to understand that it takes time to acquire the skill and endurance necessary to perform the drills taught at the academy. You are encouraged to work to your own level; I repeat no one is here to judge you. Work through it time and time again and you’ll begin to see and feel results that’s our promise.
  3. The skills learned at this academy are to be used as a last resort during a self-defense situation. We preach avoidance as first resort, if you can’t avoid an altercation, then you are taught to handle it at with the appropriate amount of force when it’s absolutely necessary to protect yourself and the persons you love and care about.
  4. This is a professional learning environment, you are to respect your fellow training partner and your instructor at all times. Your training is a tool for character development as well as physical development. Along these lines, there is no foul language and attitudes allowed. This does nothing to improve your skill.

We also understand that everyone has to go to work the next day; therefore we encourage partner preservation at all times, even though the training is hard. You can’t progress when you are healing from a serious injury. This can’t be stressed this enough.

  5. When practicing and learning the martial arts it is important to exercise control during drilling and sparring sessions. There are two levels of sparring practiced at the academy one is light contact which is required from all students at the academy and heavy contact which is optional for students. Heavy contact is reserved for a student who demonstrates a higher technical understanding of the necessary skills.
  6. There is no tolerance for people who don’t practice what they are told to practice. We may not have a belt system in this academy, however, we have form and structure in movement which is a necessity for advancement and progression in the system we teach. If you don’t practice and master the basics you’ll never get better. Just ask any professional or Olympic-level Athlete.
  7. If you expect to be proficient in the arts we ask that you don’t abuse alcohol and recreational drugs. If you’re at a bar and are inebriated or intoxicated, don’t expect you’re training to help you if you find yourself in fight.

Exercise your better judgment. Anderson Silva, Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali would not step into a competition in an impaired state, neither should you.

  8. Please exercise good hygiene. No one wants to workout, pummel and roll around with someone with bad breathe or bad body odor. Deodorant and cleanliness is a must. Also there are no open cuts and sores allowed to be exposed if you can’t cover it up you’re not allowed to workout. The academy believes that ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.’ Getting you healthier is our primary goal, not making you ill. We require all equipment to be wiped down and cleaned with a disinfectant. We pride our school on its cleanliness and we want to keep it that way.
